Propagation.
The production of new plants, sexually from seed or vegetatively from cuttings, division, layering, offsets or tissue culture.
What it means for your plants
Vegetative propagation produces genetic clones, so cultivars keep their traits; use healthy stock, clean tools, 20–25 °C and bright indirect light. Some variegation patterns are not reproduced by every method, such as leaf cuttings of the yellow-edged snake plant.
IN PRACTICE
Leaf cuttings of Dracaena trifasciata Laurentii grow into plain green plants without the yellow margins.
Put it into practice
Step-by-step pothos propagation: choosing nodes, cut length, water versus substrate, 20–25 °C for rooting in 2–4 weeks, and potting up at 2–5 cm of root.
